What is problematic sex and/or porn use?

When I refer to problematic sex and/or porn use, I’m referring to compulsive sexual behaviour.

Okay, what is compulsive sexual behaviour?

It is characterized by a persistent pattern of failure to control intense, repetitive sexual impulses or urges, resulting in repetitive sexual behavior over an extended period (e.g., six months or more) that causes marked distress or impairment in personal, family, social, educational, occupational or other important areas of functioning. (World Health Organization, 2020)

What is the Recovery Zone?

Creating that “new freedom” requires that we identify that zone in which we are at our best. Having a vision of a different life is perhaps the most important tool for significant change. A vision only works when the image is clear in our minds. For every one of us, that zone is known to us already. We have to access and articulate those areas of being at our best in order to make recovery work. That is why we call it the Recovery Zone… The path to a different life means we must have a way of knowing when we are out of our optimum behavior. Whatever addiction brought you [here], your life is now different from that of most people. There are certain things you know will bring you back to disaster. The key now is to know where your zone is. Then we can focus. (Carnes, 2009)
